By failing to act, town commissioners have denied a Cedar Point man’s request to alter zoning rules for recreational vehicle parks.

The matter was settled at the June 23 meeting.

Property owner Jimmy Guthrie sought the change to reduce the minimum acreage for an RV park from 3 to 2 acres. The request had bounced between Cedar Point’s planning board and board of commissioners in recent months.

Guthrie originally sought to include mobile home parks and campgrounds in his acreage reduction request, which was heard by the town’s planning board in a public hearing on April 7.

Arguments in Guthrie’s favor included the observation that there are not many affordable places for tourists to stay when visiting Cedar Point and, especially in these economic times, an RV park is an affordable way for tourists to visit who otherwise might not be able to do so.
